Summertime events in Val di Fassa
SPORTING EVENTS, folklore traditions, gastronomy and culture make up the busy schedule of events that mark the seasons in Val di Fassa. And, often, it is the mountains, our beloved Dolomites in all their sculpted beauty, that offer an exceptional setting.
VAL DI FASSA RUNNING COMPETITION
A mountain running competition in five stages that will lead competitors, from 23rd to 28th June, to discover the most beautiful corners of Val di Fassa whilst running, for a total of 61 km. Many international runners take part in it, an experience which they share with hundreds of amateurs; they have fun and are involved in a memorable week.
Nordic walking lovers can enjoy exercising in Val di Fassa by trying out the 5 trails of the Val di Fassa Running: as a matter of fact, the race is also open to "walkers" with poles, who set off half an hour before the start of the Running competition (at 9.30), except on the first day, when all competitors start off together (at 9:30).
DOLOMITI SKY RACE
On Sunday, July 21st the best skyrunners will be involved in the 16th edition of the Dolomites Skyrace, the highly anticipated international high mountain racing competition held in the Dolomites. The race is included in the Italian circuit of Skyrunning and the 2013 edition is also part of the European Championship events. The spectacular 22-kilometre trail course which goes from Canazei to the summit of Piz Boe at an elevation of 3,152 m, through woods, over rough trails, steep slopes and scree slopes; it features a variation in altitude of 1,702 meters, and has been covered in previous years in little more than two hours. Athletes, also called "sky runners", will compete this year in extreme conditions, facing rough roads, steep inclines, and the progressively thinner air.
SOUNDS OF THE DOLOMITES
Sounds of the Dolomites is a unique event which brings musicians from around the world to the most beautiful mountains in the Alps. The basic idea is simple and fascinating: to combine the great passions for music and the mountains, art and the environment in a series of concerts under the banner of freedom and nature.
This is where the rich Ladin tradition, with its costumes, music, cuisine, stories and legends takes centre stage in a magical atmosphere. After the success of the previous editions, in the summer of 2013, the ta Mont festival will be back. With the invaluable help of more than two hundred volunteers, with their availability and enthusiastic collaboration and desire to do and achieve, we will recreate on 3, 4 and 5 August the atmosphere of friendship and joy that has already characterized the previous editions!
